Advancements in Traumatic Brain Assessment Traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when a sudden, external, physical assault damages the brain. TBI, a broad term describing a vast array of injuries that happen to the brain, can be confined to one area of the brain or diffuse, occurring to more than one area of the brain. The severity of TBI may range from mild concussions affecting brain cells temporarily to more severe TBI resulting in bruising, torn tissues, bleeding, and other physical damage to the brain. These injuries can result in long-term complications, coma, or even death. Because the causes of TBI are part of everyday life, there is a need to bring awareness to TBI, especially to the at-risk patient population. This in-person presentation will define TBI, present the current guidelines and recommendations in clinical practice, and the new methods that advance the assessment of brain health. Point of Care Connectivity and The Importance of Post-Analytic Efficiency Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), clinical laboratory testing conducted close to the site of patient care, provides rapid turnaround of test results. With the potential to generate a quick result, the appropriate treatment can be implemented quicker potentially leading to improved clinical or economic outcomes. POCT and POCT result data has grown tremendously and there is a need to learn how to effectively manage this data for effective patient care. This in-person presentation describes how POC connectivity platforms enable the utilization of post-analytical processes, similar to well-established post-analytical processes used in the clinical laboratory, and how this leads to reporting accurate and timely results and enhancing post-analytical efficiencies.
