Anthology Domestic Violence

Course overview

This course focuses on domestic violence at the margins: readings on race, class, gender and culture attempts to identify and make relevant the lives of women, victims/survivors of domestic violence, from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic backgrounds as well as sexual orientations and immigrant statuses. This anthology fills a void in the domestic violence literature by addressing theory, research, services, and activism around the lives of battered women/survivors in the United States. Thus, the anthology studies domestic violence at the personal and structural levels as well as culturally, in academic and activists contexts, for theory and research as well as for practical services. It seeks to give voice to diverse perspectives on domestic violence, to unify themes and concerns of battered women from many groups, and to elucidate controversies and raise questions that remain unaddressed in this emerging field.
