Child Abuse Identification and Reporting

Course overview

Annually, in the United States, one in seven children endure some form of child abuse or neglect. Any person in regular contact with a child can play a role in the identification and reporting of known or suspected child abuse. This course will prepare Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants in the identification and reporting expectations surrounding child abuse. It will cover epidemiology, the history of identifying and reporting standards, child welfare services, child protective services, forms of child abuse, how to identify a perpetrator, warning and identification signs, human and labor trafficking, exclusionary circumstances, reporting responsibilities and processes, and resources relevant to helping those experiencing child abuse.
