All healthcare facilities make conscious efforts to ensure that their patients and residents remain safe from injury during their stay at their facilities. Falls are often the biggest patient safety concern and can be huge liabilities for facilities. As such, employees are to be diligent in recognizing the hazards which create an environmental favorable to falling, the patients who often serve as highest risk for falls, and how education and best practices can lower fall incidents. Upon completion of this course, student will be able to: -Identify core issues related to falls. -Recognize risk-factors associated with falls in patient and resident populations. -List steps to prevent falls. -Give examples of resident or patient education related to the prevention of falls. Learning Outcomes Standard: Based upon The Joint Commission Sentential Event flyer and best practices as reported by member hospitals.
