Course overview

1.5 hour course on the LGBTQ community and the biases in place previously, often biases from the church communities, no longer viewed as a mental health disorder, goal is to treat everyone the same, however, that is in direct conflict with person-centered care, homosexuality was once a criminal offense, early LGBTQQ groups worked to change the stigma and promote human rights, homosexuality being removed from the DSM was a step toward equality for the LGBTQ community, repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act assured same sex couples they could marry, review of definitions related to sex and gender, attitudes of healthcare personnel toward LGBTQ patients can be a barrier to proper care.
