Course overview

Course Description: This HIV / AIDS course follows this disease from its inception through to present trends and treatment options. Therapists will discover how to effectively and safely work with people who have this virus. It is good information to know, in any profession. Goal: To learn about HIV and AIDS; its symptoms, transmission, and possible treatment options as it pertains to the massage therapist. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of 70% accuracy: List the different symptoms of HIV Identify the difference between HIV and AIDS Describe what the HIV virus does to the body Identify the timeline from HIV acquisition to full-blown AIDS Describe methods of transmission among humans List what opportunistic infections are borne from the HIV virus Describe the different types of tests available to determine the presence of the HIV or AIDS virus. Describe techniques that massage therapists can use to keep themselves and their clients infection-free.
