Course overview

This interactive lecture will help you develop the critical-thinking skills needed to assess your patients injuries and make decisions about where best to transport them. Selecting the proper destination facility for a critically injured patient is every bit as important as other lifesaving interventions EMS practitioners provide in the field. Numerous studies have demonstrated that delays in transporting trauma patients to appropriate receiving facilities lead to increases in mortality rates. It Is the practitioners job to recognize the urgency of a given situation and transport a patient as quickly as possible to a trauma center, hospital, or other facility for definitive care. After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to: Identify characteristics of trauma patients. Explain the importance of proper assessment in trauma patient care. Use the triage criteria in the CDCs Field Triage Decision Scheme to determine a final destination for a trauma patient.
