Course overview

This presentation will enhance Occupational and Physical Therapists awareness of potentially harmful toxic drug exposures and high-risk behaviors related to drug abuse. Any healthcare professional can be approached by someone who is inappropriately taking or administering medications. Healthcare professionals are expected to make quick decisions when patients are at risk for serious harm, either through recognition of the source of harm or referring patients to a clinician who has the expertise to assess the situation. After this lecture, attendees will have the foundational knowledge to make a general risk assessment and the ability to find appropriate resources to assist patients with their toxic exposures, suicidal thoughts, or substance abuse issues.
