Providing mental health treatment through telehealth involves numerous considerations including but not limited to professional demands, policies, telecommunication technologies, legal requirements, and ethical standards (Barnwell et al., 2024; Joint Task Force for the Development of Telepsychology Guidelines for Psychologists, 2013). In 2023, two-thirds of psychologists surveyed offered telehealth services in their practices, and 21% exclusively offered virtual services (APA, 2023). Although telehealth has many benefits, such as improved access to services, continuity of care, and treatment flexibility (Cassity-Caywood et al., 2023), providing mental health treatment using these means also introduces a variety of challenges and risks for mental health professionals. This intermediate level webinar will address important legal and ethical considerations for mental health professionals when providing services via telehealth. Attendees will leave this training with a deeper understanding of how to provide mental health services via telehealth ethically and legally.
