Course overview

Formal primitive reflex integration typically begins in children who are around 4 to 6 years old. However, there are a variety of functional activities that pediatric professionals can incorporate with preschoolers to help their nervous systems function at their best. This practical, 2-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar provides a simple framework of activities to incorporate into preschool treatment and classroom settings to facilitate primitive reflex integration without formal testing. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) list commonly retained reflexes that impact functional skills in the preschool setting, (2) identify classroom modifications that therapists can implement to benefit the entire class, (3) state the connection between ocular motor development and reflex integration as it pertains to functional play activities, and (4 ) list one functional activity to incorporate in the preschool setting to assist with the integration of commonly retained primitive reflexes. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.2 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, Foundational Knowledge, and targeted to pediatric OTs, COTAs, SLPs, PTs, PTAs, educators, parents, and other pediatric professionals. The course instructor, Rachel Harrington, COTA/L, CPRCS, is a pediatric occupational therapy assistant, passionate about sensory integration, primitive reflexes, and early intervention. In October 2020, Rachel took over Sensational Brain, previously owned by Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, in which she has rebranded and expanded into new courses, products, and more!
