Range of motion (ROM) is a fundamental part of human movement and is essential for functional mobility. Dysfunction of the neural or musculoskeletal systems may lead to joint hypomobility or hypermobility. The range of motion assessment helps clinicians identify what may be limiting joint mobility such as the bony structure or connective tissues including tendons ligaments or the joint capsule. As such the range of motion assessment forms an integral part of patient assessment. This course discusses the range of motion assessment and the principles and procedures required to develop competency for goniometry assessment.
