Low back pain is a significant public health issue worldwide and is associated with high personal and social burden. Around 90 percent of individuals who present to primary care with low back pain have non-specific low back pain. However one to two percent of individuals with low back pain will have a serious condition. During the lumbar assessment it is crucial to determine if a patient has any red flags that indicate serious pathology and to refer where necessary. This course provides a discussion of red flags and the overall components of a lumbar assessment from the subjective history to objective tests and measures.
