·        Review the maternal physiologic changes that occur immediately after childbirth.

·        Differentiate between excess blood loss and postpartum hemorrhage.

·        Understand the benefits of breastfeeding, the frequency of breastfeeding, and the ailments and remedies that may be associated with breastfeeding.

·        Review the routine steps of an adequate newborn assessment.

·        Recall the Apgar score and how it relates to the newborn's overall condition and immediate needs after delivery.

·        Understand the importance of placing a newborn on their back to sleep to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

·        Review nursing considerations in caring for the mother and newborn.
