Course overview

The true extent of the synthetic opioid epidemic is likely underappreciated due to the lack of routine diagnostic and forensic monitoring of all possible exposures and contributors. From point-of-care test strips, to immunoassays, to complex mass spectrometric techniques there are several analytical tools available to analytical laboratories for diagnostic assessment and forensic applications, however, they each have their advantages and disadvantages. This webinar will review the current epidemic, describe analytical tools used for monitoring the epidemic, and highlight the complexity of the ongoing crisis through case studies. The available data on the advantages and disadvantages of different analytical approaches for laboratory detection will be reviewed and an overview of emerging approaches and methodologies will be discussed.
