Course overview

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: 1.Cite the current recommendations for treating moderate to severe chronic pain and breakthrough pain in patients . 2.Explain the need for designing individualized analgesic regimens for patients with chronic pain. 3.Discuss the rationales for and concerns of using opioids in patients with moderate to severe chronic pain. 4.Recognize the different classes of opioids and discuss their relative effectiveness and safety profiles. 5.Describe the basic pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles of treating breakthrough pain.
