Creating a Safe Space for Multicultural Clients to Grieve

Course overview

This training will shed light on how culturally unique ways of mourning have often been overlooked and unacknowledged, resulting in abrupt derailment in the grieving process for many. This training will illuminate a path of skills, understanding, and compassion that will leave clinicians better prepared to help clients from diverse cultures, subcultures and religions to openly express emotional experiences related to grief. Conceptualization of how discrimination and racism can lead to an experienced loss, resulting in minority client's possibly grieving will be discussed. Attendees will learn about current therapeutic approaches, diverse grief models, and steps to help create a safe space for clients who are a part of a subculture who are grieving due to discrimination and/or racism.
