What you'll learn
At the end of this presentation, learners will be able to:
- Understand the epidemiology of domestic violence, including the number of patients in a health care providers practice who are likely to be victims or perpetrators of domestic violence.
- Outline domestic violence indicators and screening procedures that may be used in a helath care setting to determine whether a patient is a risk or has any hostory of being a victim or perpetrator of domestic violence.
- Describe methods for developing a safety plan for victims of domestic violence, including bou not limited to referral to community based resources such a domestic vilence centers and other advocacy groups that can provide legal aid, shelter, victim counseling, or child protection services.
Course overview
"Domestic Violence" includes felony or misdemeanor crimes of violence committed by one of the following: Curren or former spouse of the victim, Intimate partner of the victim, A person who shares a child in common with the victim, A person who is cohabitating with or has cohabitated with the victim, Any other person against an adult or youth victim who is protected from that persons acts under the domestic or family violence laws of the jurisdiction.
