Course overview

Mexican Americans comprise more than half of all Latinos in the U.S., demonstrating a wide diversity in health beliefs and practices. Understanding these beliefs and practices can guide a nurse to establish trust, increase patient satisfaction, and provide flexible care that meets patient and family needs. Applying knowledge and expressing appreciation of diverse healthcare beliefs can help to create a therapeutic partnership that increases understanding of the patient's worldview and formulates effective interventions. The goal of this course is to provide education about the cultural values of Mexican Americans to aid nursing professionals in the acute care setting by creating individualized approaches to care.
