Autistic adults have multiple, chronic, and potentially preventable healthcare needs as compared to same-aged non-autistic adults. But much of what is known about the health and healthcare needs of autistic adults has emerged from health services research without knowing the specific priorities of autistic people for overcoming barriers to care. As we transition to a social model of autism care, it's crucial to recognize the unique healthcare needs of autistic adults, often overlooked in traditional research.
