Current clinical practice guidelines recommend the use of diagnostic clinical pathways incorporating high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) measurements. This recommendation is based on large diagnostic and interventional studies using nearly exclusively central-laboratory platforms. In contrast to central-laboratory based hs-cTn assays, point-of-care (POC) assays would allow early diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI) to be further accelerated by reducing the time from blood draw to clinical decision making, as they obviate the need for sample transportation and centrifugation. While former POC assays did not fulfill the analytical criteria of hs-cTn assays, newer assays seem to have overcome these limitations and shown promising results. In this webinar, the speaker, Dr. Luca Koechlin, will give a detailed overview about the current knowledge of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays in the early diagnosis of myocardial infarction with a special focus on the novel Point-of-Care hs-cTn assays and their clinical use.
