Course overview
Body Mechanics for Injury Prevention explains techniques for optimizing posture and core support; creating fluidity and alignment of the upper body to minimize the stress on shoulders, wrists, and hand joints; and using whole-body movements that keep the lower limbs aligned, maximize leverage, and minimize the stress on your body and prevent injury. Nearly 70 percent of massage and bodywork therapists report experiencing work-related musculoskeletal pain and repetitive stress injuries. With the online course Body Mechanics for Injury Prevention, you will learn techniques to minimize your risk of suffering these types of injuries. Here are some of the things you’ll learn: How to engage core muscles in ways that increase the efficiency of force transmission, improve endurance, and protect the lumbar spine from injury How to assess whether a body-use pattern is effective and how to change ineffective patterns How to identify and correct common mechanical mistakes with the shoulder and hand How to apply mechanical principles of gait to push, pull, bend, and lift effectively, especially during deep-tissue work Throughout the course, video demonstrations show examples of proper body mechanics and allow you to analyze the movement and technique shown. Additional video demonstrations of core stability exercises can help you to strengthen the lumbar spine to prevent pain and injury. The course also includes a downloadable injury prevention tip sheet and exercise handout. As with other ABMP online courses, you can download outlines and transcripts of the multimedia presentations used throughout the course so you can refer back to them at any time.
