COURSE DESCRIPTION: Most regulating agencies and professional associations for massage and bodywork recommend a formal client intake process as part of massage and bodywork practice. This course offers strategies for conducting verbal interviews, effective use of common forms, and methods for applying the information gathered during an intake process to session treatment choices. The interactive audio format of this course allows participants to practice interviewing clients with specific concerns, goals, or medical conditions in a massage and bodywork setting. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Having viewed the presentation and completed learning activities, the participant will be able to: Describe the importance of performing client interviews as part of the practice of massage and bodywork. Summarize the key information covered during an interview. Outline the principles provided by a membership organization that guide interviewing processes. Visually recognize specific forms commonly utilized in massage and bodywork health intake processes. List the purpose of each form. Summarize the type of information needed to complete each form. Specify methods for maintaining client forms to ensure client confidentially. Identify specific data on a health history form that requires follow up questioning in an interview. Examine sample questions to determine if they are ?open-ended? or ?closed?. Review client forms and pose open-ended questions. Categorize client data gathered from intake forms and through an interview for efficient analysis. Determine specific contraindications to massage or bodywork from the client intake process. List two modifications that might be made to a session after reviewing client intake forms. Plan modified treatments or sessions based upon the intake process. Analyze client data and choose which clients should be referred to another health care provider.
