Course overview

Head and neck cancers account for nearly 4% of all cancers in the United States. These cancers are primarily diagnosed in older adults, particularly those with a history of tobacco and alcohol use. As dental professionals, one way to check for cancer is by performing oral exams during regular dental check-ups. Essentially, the dental professional is one of the first healthcare professionals to assess for oral cancer. As a provider, it is vital to be familiar with these signs and symptoms to better guide the patient against the possibility of oral cancer. In this course, we address these concerns, besides how to reduce cancer and the importance of follow-up care.
