Course overview

Falls are a significant cause of injury and death. They can be caused by various factors within and outside of a person control. To prevent falls, its crucial to understand how they happen and to develop strategies to avoid them. Falls can significantly decline function, particularly among older people, and can negatively impact overall health. Healthcare providers, including physical and occupational therapists, should play an active role in fall prevention. Various balance tests can help determine a persons risk of falling, and multiple intervention strategies can reduce that risk. It is essential to manage a patient following a fall and take steps to prevent future falls.
