Course overview

Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional disorder of the lower gastrointestinal tract, and afflicts from 10 to 20% of the adult American population. This course focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy for irritable bowel syndrome. Learning Objectives: 1. Review a description of irritable bowel syndrome, including a definition of the disorder, and prevalence. 2. Compare cognitive behavioral therapy to various treatment alternatives. 3. Review a description of the important steps and techniques in cognitive behavioral therapy.
