Course overview

This webinar is the second in a 2-course video series. Burnout amongst occupational therapy practitioners and healthcare providers has only worsened in the past few years. This has taken a toll on the wellbeing of the practitioner and has a direct impact on patient outcomes. This course is geared towards the OT practitioner who is seeking to re-energize their self, decrease burnout, and better manage workplace stress. It will emphasize practical learning skills that can be applied to the clinical and educational setting. Principles of self-care, including active listening, use of boundaries, and a strength-based approach, will be combined with the latest scientific studies from the field of positive psychology. Tools and strategies using a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Brené Brown, PhD, and her curriculum The Daring Way will also be implemented. By integrating these evidence-based tools and strategies, OT practitioners have the potential for a more meaningful impact on those we serve in the workplace. These methods and techniques which use empathy and compassion, can also be applied to the work we do in our communities. They can have a profound effect on how we treat ourselves, both personally and professionally. Target Audience: Occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, occupational therapy students This occupational therapy continuing education course uses the following instructional methods: visual aides (ie slides), discussion board, guided note taking, and learning, and practice opportunities. Learning Objectives: 1. Explain how to apply evidence-based tools and strategies designed to decrease clinician burnout and improve well-being at work and beyond. 2.
