Course overview

Psychotic disorders represent a formidable challenge for individuals, plunging them into a profound struggle with a significant loss of connection to reality. These disorders manifest particularly during psychotic episodes, where a pervasive uncertainty clouds the distinction between what is real and unreal. Such episodes encompass a spectrum of distressing experiences, including hallucinations, where individuals perceive things that others do not, delusions, characterized by strongly held false beliefs, disorganized speech, making communication fragmented and difficult to follow, and incoherence, resulting in a lack of cohesion in thought and expression. While schizophrenia stands out as the most prevalent form of psychotic disorder, it's essential to recognize that various other disorders can also give rise to similar psychotic symptoms. This homestudy course delves into the intricacies of identifying and comprehending best practices in treating individuals with psychotic disorders, placing a primary emphasis on guiding effective clinical interventions aligned with the heightened expertise of post-doctoral professionals. Participants will explore the complexities of these mental health challenges, gaining insights that extend beyond foundational knowledge. Theoretical frameworks, practical case studies, and discussions on evidenced-based treatment practices will be discussed to enhance outcomes with his population.
