POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (4 CE)

Course overview

A diagnosis of PTSD requires that an individual has experienced, witnessed or was confronted with an injury or a threat to the bodily integrity of oneself or others and responded with fear, horror, or helplessness. According to epidemiological studies, about 60-90% of individuals in the U.S. have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lifetimes. This course explores three empirically-supported interventions for PTSD: exposure therapy; eye movement desensitization and reprocessing treatment; and stress inoculation training. Learning Objectives: 1. Review a description of PTSD, including a definition of symptoms and prevalence rates. 2. Compare exposure therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing treatment, and stress inoculation training to various treatment alternatives. 3. Review a description of the important steps and techniques for each treatment intervention.
