Introduction to the Balance Systems and Assessment for OTs

Course overview
This course provides occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants with an overview of the role of the somatosensory, visual, and vestibular systems in maintaining balance. Learners will gain an understanding of the physiology of these three systems, common changes that occur with aging, and how to assess for impairment. The modified CTSIB and the Mini-BESTest are discussed. You will learn to use the test results to guide your interventions, helping improve your patients' balance and minimize their fall risk. The goal of this course is to provide OT professionals with an understanding of the balance systems, how to assess them, and how to select interventions.
