DEMENTIA AND COMMUNICATION (CNA)

Course overview

This online training course on dementia for CNAs has been developed in an interdisciplinary process for establishing standards of care and training in best practices for the care of nursing home residents with dementia. This course recognizes the nursing home resident as the focus and emphasizes improved care and improved quality of life for nursing home residents with dementia through education. At the conclusion of this training module, the CNA will be able to: 1. Undertand the basics of human communication, both verbal and nonverbal. 2. Understand that communication gets harder as resients live longer with dementia. 3. Recoginzie pain an ddiscomfort in residents by the way they behave. 4. Demonstrate basic skills of communication with residents with dementia, including residents with challenging behaviors. 5. Describe cultural differences in communication.
