Course overview

This online training course on dementia for CNAs has been developed in an interdisciplinary process for establishing standards of care and training in best practices for the care of nursing home residents with dementia. This course recognizes the nursing home resident as the focus and emphasizes improved care and improved quality of life for nursing home residents with dementia through education. At the conclusion of this training module, the CNA will be able to: 1. Identify specific distress behaviors in residents with dementia and possible triggers and consequences. 2. Describe the role of the CNA in identifying, preventing, and managing distress behaviors. 3. Recognize the role of the family and interdisciplinary team in the care management of distress behaviors. 4. Describe things a CNA can do in the prevention and management of distress behaviors.
