Course overview

Maxillofacial trauma can result from numerous mechanisms of injury and presents enormous challenges for both healthcare providers and patients. Facial injuries are complex, challenging injuries that require in-depth knowledge of the structures involved, including the potential for airway compromise, intracranial trauma, and spinal cord injury. In addition to the potential for life-threatening injuries, facial trauma can have long-term consequences that affect the functionality of the senses and the psychological well-being of the patient. This course equips nurses with the knowledge needed to care for patients who experience maxillofacial trauma.
