Washington Suicide Prevention and Intervention - 6 Hours

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1. Understand the epidemiology and causes of suicidal behavior.
2. Identify the risk factors associated with suicide.
3. Conduct screening and assessments to determine the likelihood of suicide.
4. Manage patients who are at risk of suicide.
5. Learn about various treatment options for individuals who are at risk for suicide.
6. Understand the public health approach to suicide prevention, which includes primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention strategies.
7. Discuss veteran population-specific epidemiologic data, risk factors, protective factors, and interventions.
8. Recognize self-injurious behaviors, assess intent, objects, substances, and actions common in suicide attempts, restrict access to lethal means, intervene at suicide hotspots, practice safe storage, and counsel on access to lethal means to reduce the risk of self-harm.
