Course overview
Mastery of PICC insertions takes some time, especially with children and infants. This class is designed to train the nurse or physician for the insertion of pediatric PICCs. The program will show real insertions of a neonate and an infant. Class information includes growth and development, venous anatomy, site selection, use of pre-medications, insertion techniques, complications with intervention and tips and tricks for the use of child life for distraction therapy to reduce movement allowing the practitioner to be more successful with insertion and care. The examples and actual practice issues by the instructor give you a better understanding of PICC procedures in an effort to aid your success. Overall, this is a clinically based class allowing you to become qualified to begin inserting Pediatric PICCs, under supervision, based on the policies of your institution for number of required, supervised insertions.
