Course overview

Much attention has been focused recently on the prevention of vascular access infections. Central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) can be prevented through proper management of the central line insertion checklist. Many agencies including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) have issued guidelines, standards and recommendations using evidence-based practices proven to reduce CLABSIs. Despite the scientific evidence supporting these measures, adherence to these practices remains variable in the United States. The purpose of this webinar program is to review the importance of specific guidelines and recommendations as published by the National Healthcare Safety Network and to show how use of their monitoring form, Central Line Insertion Practices Adherence Monitoring (CLIP), can improve compliance and reduce central line associated bloodstream infections in your facility.
