Course overview

On planet Earth, cells are "the building blocks of life". Cells and the tissues and structures that they form are the focal point of the field of histology. Cells provide the canvas for the palette of our myriad of histology stains. From H&E and special stains through IHC, and in situ molecular stains, we will examine the intricacies of our chosen field of study: cells. We will see how the stains that we produce each day provide the basis for the pathologists' diagnosis, which assists the clinicians' efforts to provide a prognosis and treatment plan for each patient. Come along on a journey beginning with the birth and existence of cells which encompasses the basic staining principles of our histology stains - past, present and future.
