HistoQIP is a quality assurance program for histopathology, jointly sponsored by the National Society for Histotechnology NSH and the College of American Pathologists CAP . The primary emphasis of the program is to improve the quality of histologic preparations routinely performed in the histology laboratory through education. Twice per year, participating laboratories submit stained slides from different cases in their own laboratory that may require H&E, IHC or special staining. These include recuts of specific surgical tissue types that vary from one challenge to the next. For each set of slides submitted, participants receive an evaluation grade specific to their laboratorys submission along with a Participant Summary Report PSR that includes peer comparison data, performance benchmarking data, and information regarding best-performing procedures and techniques. Also included in the most recent PSRs is summary data gathered from an extensive set of preanalytic and 'analytic' questions that guage current common practices, equipment, reagents, and staining methodologies used in histology labs. With a peer group of approximately 800 laboratories, the data is quite compelling as it relates to common practice. This workshop will present the preanalytic and analytic data gathered from each HistoQIP survey post COVID-19.
