Course overview
Part 1 of this course will familiarize the learner with important components of a medication service. Information about different types of medication orders, management of controlled substances, medication labels, documentation, and medication delivery routes are discussed. Part 2 will cover common problems related to medications and ways to avoid them. Assisting with or administering drugs is an important job. You need to be prepared for some common problems that may arise. Using communication and observation and optimizing your skills in medication safety will be discussed. You may find that you have no direct duties for assisting or administering medication. However, you are a part of the healthcare team that looks out for the persons in your care. Your observations, communication, and reporting of needed information are vital. Safe medication practices are a team effort. All staff can play a vital role in achieving medication safety.
