Course overview

The use of a sensory diet is a research-based method of providing individuals with sensory modulation difficulties with the input they need to function their best. Sensory diets are often helpful for kids who (a) can't stop moving, (b) tend to be sluggish or unmotivated, (c) are picky eaters, (d) struggle with transitions, (e) struggle with emotional regulation, and more! Sensory diets are often recommended, yet poorly understood and often misused. This 5-hour, practical, evidence-based, view-on-demand, recorded webinar equips therapists, teachers, and caregivers with the ability to determine the child's sensory needs and implement a sensory diet to meet the child's needs effectively. You finish this course with everything you need to start implementing effective sensory diets immediately, including (a) checklists and forms to guide you from start to finish, (b) resources and tons of examples, (c) what to do when a sensory diet doesn't work, and (d) strategies to ensure follow-through at home and school. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) state three types of sensory modulation disorders, (2) identify assessment results to formulate an effective sensory diet plan, (3) list different options available to assist in teaching self-modulation skills, (4) state two research-based tools for creating visual sensory diet supports, (5) identify the proper usage of forms and checklists provided to empower parents and teachers to support children in their daily environmentsm and (60 list three sensory strategies to meet the needs of individual clients appropriately. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.5 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, Foundational Knowledge, and targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level occupational therapists, teachers, and caregivers. The course instructor, Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, is an experienced occupational therapist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorders.
