Course overview

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology located in Brisbane, Australia is a member of the global Sonic Healthcare group and the largest single site histopathology laboratory in Australia, processing almost half a million patients in 2023. This workshop will showcase the in depth workings of this laboratory along with imparting a nuanced understanding of histopathology in Australia and how it differs from the USA. This workshop will commence with a guided virtual tour of the custom built laboratory. With this framework of understanding we will explore the workflow, staffing and strategy of providing a healthcare service at a scale rarely seen around the world. Included in this will be the technology and innovation that facilitates these operations. Additionally there will be in depth dive into the workings of the department's immunohistochemistry lab, its intersection with molecular pathology and the digital imaging technologies in use. To finish we project to the future, with a large laboratory renovation underway for completion in early 2025 we explore what the future of Histopathology in Australia looks like and how we're getting there.
