Course overview
Emotional disability (also known as emotional disturbance) is among the most complex conditions that occupational therapists work with. Therefore it calls for the best we have to offer, including: Trauma informed care Therapeutic use of self And close collaboration with team members. Over the years, there have been multiple social emotional learning interventions to support children with But, New York City schools were finding that one-size-fits all students were not sufficient for their students. Instead they have created and are studying a pilot program called the Path Program. At the heart of this program are occupational therapists and occupational therapy concepts. The journal article we are reviewing today describes how this program is being developed through a research-practice partnership and how social emotional learning interventions are being infused with trauma informed care. Next week on the podcast, we will welcome Michelle Flemen-Tung, MSEd the program director of the Path Program. She will share concrete ways we all can improve our support for kids with emotional disabilities.
