Explaining The IHC Regulatory Controversy: Should You Adopt The New IHC Quality Assurance Protocols?

In 2023, a series of editorials were published (including from NSH) arguing that standard quality assurance methods used for Clinical Immunoassay testing should also apply to Clinical Immunohistochemistry. Histotechnologists may be caught in the middle between the responsibility for delivering top tier IHC stains while, at the same time, lacking the best tools to accomplish that. This seminar is an introduction to a new world of IHC quality assurance tools. Similar tools are already a standard of daily practice for Medical Technologists. We will summarize the literature describing the drivers behind the change and then describe the tools themselves and how they are used to ensure accurate IHC staining.
