Course overview

The cerebellum often referred to as the 'little brain' is a small but mighty part of the central nervous system. It plays a role in maintaining balance and posture coordinating voluntary movement and motor learning. There is also growing research that supports the cerebellum's role in emotion and cognition. Understanding the cerebellum's role is vital for rehabilitation professionals because effective management of balance and motor control is the basis of neuromuscular re-education graded muscle strengthening gait training and balance interventions. These interventions are integral to every patient's care plan. This course overviews the neuroanatomy and function of the cerebellum and discusses common clinical implications of disease or dysfunction in the different parts of the cerebellum. This course aims to overview the anatomy and function of the cerebellum.
