The spinal cord is the information highway on which sensory and motor impulses travel between the central and peripheral nervous systems. Along with this relay role between the brain and periphery the spinal cord provides separate neural circuits for many of our automatic reflexes. Spinal cord injury can be a life-changing medical diagnosis and it is paramount for rehabilitation professionals to understand the impact that damage and neurological lesions can have on a patients functional ability. This course overviews the neuroanatomy and function of the spinal cord and discusses common clinical presentations of spinal cord injury or lesion.
