Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune condition affecting around 1% of the population. Because it is a systemic condition it can significantly impact many body systems beyond the joints. It can cause long-term disability pain and premature death. Early identification and implementation of appropriate pharmacological management are essential for optimal outcomes. While pharmacological management is the mainstay of treatment rehabilitation professionals also have a role in managing this multifactorial condition. This course aims to provide a brief overview of rheumatoid arthritis for rehabilitation professionals highlighting key epidemiological clinical and diagnostic features as well as pharmacological and non-pharmacological management strategies.
