Course overview

Phantom limb pain is a common and distressing phenomenon experienced by individuals who have undergone amputation. It is characterized by painful sensations perceived as originating from the missing limb. The causes of phantom limb pain are multifaceted, involving both central and peripheral factors. The prevalence and heterogeneity of phantom limb pain pose significant challenges in understanding its underlying mechanisms and developing effective treatment approaches. Ongoing research is focused on characterizing the phenomena associated with phantom limb pain and exploring advanced treatment methods to induce appropriate cortical reorganization and alleviate phantom limb pain. This course will go over the concepts of phantom limb pain/sensation and how to improve the severity and frequency of these symptoms in our patients.
