Understanding and measuring frailty in geriatric dogs

Course overview
Frailty is a routine clinical measure of the impact of aging and age-associated disease on health and wellbeing in geriatric humans. A number of frailty instruments have been developed to assess this measure in companion dogs as well. Measuring frailty can help clinicians assess risk and make decisions about the best treatment plan for older dogs. Frailty can also be useful in research to evaluate the effects of new treatments. This session will explore the causes of frailty, the tools used to measure, and the practical uses of frailty assessment in canine practice.
