Course overview

This course is intended for a wide audience of health care providers involved in advanced wound care management, hyperbaric and undersea medicine, including the registered nurse, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, physical therapist, physician, physician's assistant, certified hyperbaric technologist, certified hyperbaric registered nurse and others. The primary purpose of this UHMS Jointly Sponsored Symposium, The Science of Wound Care, Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine, is to educate learners in all disciplines on the most recent research, information and technological advances in scientific and technical diving and the impact on medicine, advanced wound care management including legal concerns, core anatomy, wound healing physiology, wound etiology and interventions, and clinical hyperbaric medicine. The second purpose of the program is to discuss the challenges or risks of treating patients with low ejection fractions, review the literature as it relates to defining criteria for excluding patients with low EF and finally, establishing guidelines for practitioners in their assessment of these cardio-pulmonary compromised patients. The third purpose of this symposium is to provide an understanding of quality, including tools like Lean to help the practitioner improve the care model; to look at the latest compliance issues and regulatory changes impacting pressure ulcers and organizational accountability. The fourth goal of the event is to advance the concept and value of UHMS accreditation with a dynamic panel discussion. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) and Wound Care Education Partners. The UHMS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The UHMS designates this live activity for a maximum of 19.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.
