Course overview

At the conclusion of this program, participants will: 1. Describe at least two behaviors typical of each stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD); 2. Explain the A-B-C Model of Behavior 3. Describe at least two strategies for addressing challenging behaviors; 4. Describe alternatives to physical and chemical restraints; 5. Describe at least two strategies for approaching each activity of daily living (ADL): dressing, grooming, eating, bathing, toileting and incontinence; 6. Describe at least two benefits of group activities; 7. Describe how individual activities can be beneficial; 8. Describe at least two sources of stress on family caregivers; 9. Describe at least two sources of stress on professional caregivers; 10. Identify at least two ways to evaluate caregiver stress; 11. Describe at least two strategies for reducing caregiver stress; 12. Name at least two commonly prescribed medications for residents with AD; 13. Describe how a staff member would report a behavioral change that is suspected to be medication related; 14. Describe at least two signs of malnutrition; 15. Describe at least two signs of dehydration; 16. Describe at least two strategies for addressing malnutrition and dehydration.
