THE TREATMENT OF CANCER AND AUTOIMMUNE ILLNESS USING CLASSIC FORMULAS

Course overview

Dr. Huang teaches and practices classic formulas from the Shang Han Lun tradition in Nan Jing, China. A group of us studied with Dr. Huang for 3 weeks in Nan Jing in October of 2007. He returned to teach an 8-day course on individual herbs in August 2008 and another course on the 10 formula families in February 2009. This seminar is designed to give the previous participants a deeper understanding of Dr. Huang's teachings as well as to give new students a clinically relevant study of Dr. Huang's classic formula and body type approach in relation to the treatment and support of cancer patients. Dr. Huang relies almost solely on classic formulas from the Shang Han Lun in his own busy practice in Nan Jing. His approach to diagnosis is based on body types and the 10 main formula families. This approach is particularly relevant for patients who are undergoing treatment with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or patients who have undergone surgery for cancer. Understanding the body type of the patient can be the key for providing the correct support so that these western therapies can be more effective and less destructive. Classic formulas offer a method of working along side western treatments to reduce side effects such as fever, pain, mouth sores, weight loss, anemia, immune deficiencies and digestive disruption. In addition, we have found, in working with Dr. Huang’s methods, that many of our patients who are undergoing such western treatments surprise their doctors by their excellent response to the treatments themselves. In addition, we will learn to understand the body imbalances that need attention in order to reduce the risk of and prevent cancer. Dr. Huang Huang will be presenting his use of key formulas for the treatment of cancer patients and will present detailed case studies from his own practice. Students are welcome to bring their own questions and cases for review. Dr. Huang's teachings are very straightforward, immediately applicable in the clinic and richly tied to the ancient traditions. For those practitioners who do not treat cancer patients, this course will still have great value. The principles and techniques offered here are relevant for all types of chronic illness.
